The Lookout is located at the corner of Kenny and Hardy Roads in Ashfield.
In 2021 AshfieldCAN worked with Dave Kelly MLA, the Town of Bassendean, and Ghems Revegetation Environmental to restore this public area.
The Lookout was a contaminated site that was transformed into a place of contemplation and connection with a new community garden that enables residents to admire the sweeping view over the Ashfield Flats wetland and the Darling Scarp beyond.
A highlight of the space is a story telling bench made in part from recycled timbers salvaged from the Sandy Beach Reserve Jetty, with QR codes inlaid that can be used to listen to a range of stories about the history of Ashfield from long term residents, along with the sounds of birds and other local wildlife.
AshfieldCAN are now working with local agencies to ensure the vegetation is authentic to the area and enables the community to enjoy the view. Once completed a set of mountable binoculars will be installed.
